Mindchangers Capacity Building at the Youth Forum 2022

Young people for a better world: at the Youth Forum 2022 in Rust (DE), Mindchangers, young people and teachers shared their ideas on climate change and migration.

Students and teachers from 14 schools, invited by Mindchangers, Fairtrade Germany and the Foundation for Development Cooperation Baden-Württemberg (SEZ), celebrated their commitment to fair trade, climate change and global justice.

13 experts from this year’s Mindchangers projects designed six different workshops on climate change, migration and global justice for the young students between 15 and 17 years, in order to not only present their projects and the topics they are passionate about, but also to engage with young people and receive a better understanding of their needs and interests. By working together with youths, the projects gained insight on how to improve their concepts and get more young people engaged in the topics of climate change and migration.

At the same time, an exchange for teachers took place, in which the Mindchangers partners in Germany presented the mindchangers campaign, as well as numerous opportunities for schools to participate in activities and projects fostering youth engagement on the mindchangers topics.

Sandra Boser, State Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Lukas Scheub, consultant of the management of Europa-Park, Nicole Kimmel, Mindchangers coordinator for the State Ministry Baden-Württemberg, and Philipp Keil, Managing Director of SEZ, underlined the importance of young engagement for politics and society during the welcome talk. Hosnijah Mehr, Poerty Slam artist in the association i,Slam e.V., inspired and empowered the students on site with her artistic input and during the closing discussion with Mona Anderes (Fridays For Future activist) and Navika Deol (moderator of the Youth Forum 2022 and politically engaged).

At the end of the Youth Forum 2022 and as a thank you to the students, but also to the teachers of the Fairtrade Schools, Europa-Park invited all participants to the theme park for the end of the day.
